We are family lawyers who help UK parents with the legal aspects of adopting children based in another country.
We provide adoption legal services to help you apply for an adoption order from the family court in England and Wales, or to apply for a court order to recognise a foreign adoption.
We also help parents who have already adopted a child overseas to secure their family’s legal status (and/or their child’s British nationality) in the UK, and we help parents based overseas who wish to adopt children from the UK.
We usually arrange a fixed fee Legal Review with an experienced adoption law solicitor in the first instance, during which we help you put in place a strategic legal plan. We will help you work out how to comply with UK and international law if you are adopting a child across borders, and to understand what you need to do to become your child’s legal parents and to make sure your child has the right immigration and nationality status.
Our services include:
Our work is in some cases charged on a fixed fee basis and in others on an hourly rate basis (with a clear estimate of overall costs and regular updates).
We can help you secure British nationality for your adopted child. While some overseas adoptions make a child British, others do not, and you may need to make an adoption application to the family court in England and Wales or to the Home Office in the UK to secure British nationality for your child.
We can steer you on the options, and provide guidance, support or legal representation with all these processes. Our work is in some cases charged on a fixed fee basis and in others on an hourly rate basis (with a clear estimate of overall costs and regular updates).
We prepare specialist wills for parents, to protect you and your child in case there is an unexpected death before your adoption order is granted.
Our long experience means that you know the parentage law quirks are taken care of, and our easy remote service enables you to make or update your wills via telephone/Skype and email, for a fixed fee.
