		<description>The taboo around surrogacy has caused so many damaging laws. I hope we will wake up to ourselves before the suffering of others in this way becomes endemic. 

I would be curious to know what reason was given for not allowing this to be conceded in 2008. 

In New Zealand (&amp; UK until a few years ago), a child born through surrogacy had to be adopted. As adoption by single people is very much accepted nowadays, could this not be done instead of a parental order as workaround to allowing single people the chance to have their child?
