Converting from civil partnership to marriage: why and how

As of the 10 December 2014 it will be possible for same sex couples to covert their existing civil partnerships into a marriage. This follows the introduction for the first time in England and Wales of marriage for same sex couples earlier this year. Whist practically speaking there is little difference between a civil partnership and a marriage the significance of being able to be legally married will be significant for many.
